Simon Peter
I trailed in shadows to see His fate,
Too afraid to move beyond the gate, Ashamed, I spoke with hot denials,
While within, my Lord began His trials.
I do not know the man you are mistaken,
My Lord was by my words forsaken.
I followed when the day was bright,
But feared to follow on that darkened night.
Not once, nor twice, but three times I cried,
I do not know Him, I fiercely lied,
And I heard the cock then crow,
It hit me like a mighty blow.
I saw him turn and cast his look at me,
I ran forth and wept so bitterly.
I saw His eyes that said I forgive,
And then I saw Him die so I that might live.
The eyes that cast His look my way,
The one who said for you, I’ll pray,
How great was the love he showed to me, How sure the redemption that set me free.
