Help thou mine unbelief
“Help thou mine unbelief!”
The soul did aching cry
Devoid of soul and passion
No spirit dwells inside
A still small voice that once was
Now bears an empty void
The silent air of rushing winds
A fire of faith destroyed
The believing soul that once was
With the heart of mighty men
Now stands upon the precipice
For this, the bitter end
Endurance ending swiftly
The race is far and wide
A narrow gate is choking
A path that now divides
Like the road to Emmaus
Fast falls the eventide
Breaking bread I stumble
The truth too hard to hide
My lips press to the cup
Yet gall is all I find
In bitterness, I drink it all
Yet faith shall I find?
Upon a tree to hang and die
For me, His blood was shed
Yet adding to his dying toll
My faith is all but dead

About this poem
While I consider myself to be a Christian and a follower of Jesus Christ, I have experienced what some might call a "crisis of faith" at various points in my life. In the book of Mark, in the Holy Bible, there is a story of a man who struggles with his faith. "And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." Mark 9:24 KJV I have been that man.
