SHADOWY FIGURES LURKING (II)

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Shadowy figures are lurking
In this foul town after midnight,
Malignant beings crudely loping
Across the town after twilight.

Abominations slowly lurching
Around this doom-cursed place,
Where buildings lean like Pisa's tower
As though trying to hide their face.

Phantasmagorical figures slink
Through the sinister black streets,
Haunting, taunting, terrorising
Like the Postman on his beat.

Malevolent voices are calling
Echoing down the dirty alleyways,
Maleficent creatures stalk the night
But hide before the break of day.

Malicious forms are nearby
Watching your every movement,
Following from not far behind
Approaching with evil intent.

Shadowy figures are lurking
Readying to pounce out at you,
Hoping to catch you off your guard
When your dying time is due.
