GIBBERING

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Gibbering resounds at night
Around a village lost to terror,
Rabid apes and unknown primates
And other biological errors.

Outdoors gibbering primates lurk
Indoors people cower together,
Hoping one day to escape from
This place they've been forever.

Squealing and loud screeching
Fills the midnight atmosphere,
Sounds of lumbering footsteps
In this village lost to fear.

Trumpeting and loud roaring
Fills the evil twilight sky,
While just above the rooftops
Feathered abominations fly.

Gibbering resounds at night
Around this dreadful town,
Winged reptiles soar overhead
Burrowers move underground.

In the pitch-black town
Malignant beings crawl,
As through the dire darkness
Mutant creatures squall.

Shrilling fills the air
As leviathans reach a'high,
Battering roofs and chimneys
To get at people locked inside.

Gibbering resounds at night
In a village that's almost dead,
People hope just for another day
To escape this night of dread.
