The Storm

Tabitha J. Bryson 1973 (Indianapolis, Indiana)

I hear the thunder echoing around me
I feel the cold rain falling, falling
I see a light from the flicker of a candle
It's in my neighbors' kitchen window
The wind is increasing
It blows fiercely against my wet skin & clothing
Ooh, I'm cold
I notice a light coming near
It's faint
Off in the distant field
It's you...you've come. Finally.
We embrace
You softly whisper 'I love you'
I return the love & kiss you tenderly upon your cheek
'It's so cold out here' I say
You quickly agree
Suggesting we go inside, out of the weather
And we do.
