Analysis of Careful Approach

Time is passing day by regretted day
I'm waiting for the sign that it is okay
for me to come and open your door,
dear friend, I've been deeply longing for.

Our lives linger on in lonely houses
in a coldly interconnected world
but the heartbeat that your name arouses
defies all spinning the tech has twirled.

My own disillusions I can bear.
My bygone pains, I reluctantly share.
But I won't bear it to ever hurt you
because it would break me if I do.

"Only words", you say in disbelieve
when I express how deep the grieve
is tracing my heart not seeing you,
"Just a dream that cannot be true."

With sadness I am watching the stress
that would be lifted if you'd let caress
your body and mind in person for real
with all the warmth you make me feel.

My own disillusions I can bear.
My bygone pains, I reluctantly share.
But I won't bear it to ever hurt you
because it would break me if I do.

For now I can only trust that soon
we'll be together expelling the swoon
and loneliness of a life not shared
refueling the lights that barely flared.

My heart is willing and my mind agrees,
because these feelings cannot be wrong
It is a bright path my dreaming foresees
one that would feel like a soothing song.

My own disillusions I will forget.
No day with you I will regret.
Forever can be togetherness
affirmed with eyes that caress.

Ludy Bührs

The topics she writes about are very diverse, so are the poetry styles she applies. As a Dutch translator and poet, having lived in Cambodia's capital city Phnom Penh for 2.5 years, in 2008 she published "Op de ruïnes van een rijk" (On the Ruins of an Empire) ISBN 978-90-8834-483-1 with 60 poems based on her experiences there. In 2007 she received a Certificate of Accomplishment as one of The Best Poems and Poets of 2007 issued by poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry for her poem Choked Truth, her own translation of "Verstikte waarheid", one of the poems in the book. Born in 1956, she still works as an independent translator, translating from English into Dutch. more…
