Analysis of Such a Love

Dreams of such a love smirk
openly at the idea of statistical probability.
They are the same dreams that, with a little work,
make reaching the summit of Mount Everest as a double
amputee seem both manageable and reasonable.
Yet, every kiss remains my first warm shower
after surviving an avalanche on K2!
You are my rock, floating in air-
a river of new Christian faith
running through Judas’ disloyal veins!
In an instant's embrace you release me from
Samsara, after a thousand lifetimes of knowing
only of greed and murder. Dreams of this love laugh at
accepted principles of space and time, living
in a parallel universe that accepts no
logic. The existence of such trust
and molten passion is as
pleasant
as five
fresh
cups of
tea, after
forty days
of wandering
across the
Sahara,
drinking
only dirty
water.
If such a thing can last, maybe there’ll be a way to rid
Chernobyl of every last residue of radiation. Happily ever after is
as likely as an alcoholic’s
successful conversion to Islam.
Yet, when I look in your eyes,
I think, maybe the Messiah
will rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem tomorrow. For, after all, our love
suggests that the improbable, even the impossible, is simple.
