Poems »

I have been writing poetry most of my life I love how so much can be said using so little. I am not a literary person but have always enjoyed this form which drips out of me, for reasons I can’t explain, almost constantly. I have written poems to try and explain this like Surfers Block, Special Presents and Oasis. I spent my youth in East Africa and poems like African Night and African Rain are reflections from those times. Now 55yrs old and a retired London policeman the poems Dawn and Black Rain were actually about finding a body in the early hours and homelessness in London in Pinched Freedom and Shop Doorway. I am also interested in the concepts of space and eternity which can be seen in poems like An Uneasy Rock and Macrocosm . I also like deserts for their timelessness and brutal beauty portrayed in Hour Glass and Sinai. My Grandfather fought right through the First War and as a youngster I saw how it had so deeply affected his life. I have always been very proud of him as I have of my father. Poems like Half Fat White No Sugar, Welcome Home 1918, Musical Credits, and A present from The Bad Lands about a tie pin my father brought back for me from the Bad Lands reflect some of these feelings. Another subject that intrigues me is the history of mankind because I just don’t buy the way historians/Archaeologists’ tell our story. I write a bit about this in Long Before Lucy, Inconvenient Truth and Gulf of Khambhat. I have written some nature poems also like Kingfisher, Chameleon, Spring, Another Winter,Tiger man, Eagle and Feathers On Water. If anyone wants to talk to me about anything I have written you can get me on timsavage007@hotmail.com I will always visit your site and read your poems if you comment on mine.
