A last breath wheezes,
Tarnished by abuse and neglect,
Surrendering softly into cold night air.
In the distance a church service gripped by the Passion,
Knows and cares nothing for such passing.
In a time long departed a mothers joy and unbound love
For the first gasp of this fragile life,
Wrapped and cherished in warmth and comfort,
Christened by the holy church,
Now exhaled into a greater understanding.
Found, next morning, by protocol and regulation,
Too late, a brief focus of attention.
A name on a social security card, confirmed later by fingerprint.
The department store will soon be opening,
For indulgence and profit on a massive scale,
Card board, newspaper and last urine quickly fumigated,
Lest anyone should feel disturbed.
No family found, just a quick cremation, ashes not required.
