Loneliness

I smile and laugh
And call you on the phone,
While disguising my pain
And my sad tone.

Like a maudlin person
Wearing a clown's face,
Laughing at the situation
And at his broken suitcase.

After we talk
And our conversation is done,
I hang up the phone
Reminiscing our fun.

Like pictures in a photo album -
Frozen scenes that last a lifetime.
Or like memories in a camera
Using words or just a mime.

I turn my head
And try not to cry,
Closing my eyes,
Wishing not having
To say bye.

Like a soap opera actress,
In a romantic love scene.
Where her lover lifts up her chin
And kisses her soflty, like a dream -
Calm and serene.

The pain in my heart
Is too great to say.
Filling with lonliness
And hurting everyday.

Like a colorful flower
Whose stem has begun to slack.
For the source of its energy -
Sunlight - is what it lacks.

Wanting you here
Near by by side
I feel like shrinking
And wanting to hide.

Like a small child
When asked what's her name.
She shys away slowly
Then reappears - like a game.

Months seem like years
And years are forever
I long to hold you near
I don't want to let you go - never.

Like a brand new sticker
On a clean metal plane
That when trying to remove it
Just tears in pain.

Half of me is gone
And only you have the other side.
Until we meet again
Like the sun sets
On the evening tide.
