Soliloquy
Daira Vargas 1979 (NY)
To live or to die
Is the decision to wonder why.
To dream and live a new day
Is the correct path they say.
But soft and behold
A new path is to be unfold.
Death is the decision to contemplate,
For if one does not think
It may be too late.
To live or to die -
Whether it's nobler to take action
And say goodbye;
Or not to give
And face all life's troubles
And continue to live.
Oh how difficult life is!
The worries and the woes -
Difficult is the emphasis.
The thought of ending it all
Seems like the best thing to do
When one finds themselves between walls
Trapped and suffocated too.
But the only thing that prevents me
From taking action
Is a little doubt -
Maybe the size of a fraction.
What lies on the other side
One does not know
That's why one fears death
And hesitates to go.
If I felt like dying
I would do so right now
Yet, to die may be with pain
To die, in what way? How?
Oh, my little bodkin
That lies here next to me
You seem to be the answer
To end my misery.
"Think a little more,"
My mind says to me,
"For it would be foolish
To die reluctantly."
To live or to die
Which shall I choose?
My mind constantly ponders -
I wish not to lose!
Death is forever,
Life is not.
If I should end life sooner,
What have I accomplished? What?
I see no logic
In ending life so soon
Death will arrive anyway
One does not know when -
Maybe in June.
And so my little bodkin,
I will put you away
I choose not to die
And live a brand new day.
