When Everything Went Numb

When Everything Went Numb

I find myself coming to.
My eyes splinter through shades of blue.
Memories come rushing in.
I can’t believe what’s happenin’
What have I done?
When everything went numb.

I don’t dare bother asking
Why I’m lying between two bits of bread.
And why my hands are dripping red.
I curl up in a ball again.
I can’t believe what’s happenin’
What have I done?
When everything went numb.

His body lies beside me.
And in his eyes all I can see
Is myself staring back at me.
This lifeless shape a former friend.
I can’t believe what’s happenin’
What have I done?
When everything went numb.

Now here lies my discretion.
Now’s a good time for you to listen.
You need to hear what I have to say.
I’m sorry it had to end this way.
Did you think I wouldn’t amend your sin?
How did you think that this would end?
Now you see what I’ve done?
When everything went numb.

I’ve yet to fully comprehend?
How far my actions condescend.
I now lay to rest this piece of waste.
My former friend I once embraced.
And as I lay him down I whisper.
Tell my wife I miss her.
