The Sacrifice

Fire whips the sky.
Fierce Gods roll from the heavens
To discipline their servant.
She peered through a door
So innocently, so hopelessly

The flames danced in her eyes
The drums tempted her bare feet
The music drew her closer
To the place of sky and altar.
Her small body eased into the beat
Dancing with the music
Playing with the fire

Chosen
Chosen to be sacrificed
Teasing the music
Her eyes blazing
Feet pounding
The music thundering over all else
Suddenly silenced
The Gods have arrived.
