Soft Lullabies

As I sit here singing soft lullabies,
regret works its casual way through my veins,
sighs whisper notes within notes while dreams fly
across the room's delicate ambience.

Shadows flicker romance as candlelight
catches the frayed edges of passion's smile,
tomorrow's a fractured lifetime away,
it lingers on the threshold of promise.

Goodbye travels the corners of these eyes
while visions collide with heartache's splendour,
do not mourn this passing over my sweet,
hitch a ride on the future's solemn wings.

This rope's fascinated with my throat's curve,
swings and roundabouts flap imagery's wisps,
flutters of this eternal youth quicken,
just another gorgeous suicide's laugh.

Carry our children's possibilities
along your cool wisdom; fine-lined and true,
I hope forgiveness comes to them in time,
but for now please tell them I've just left home?

Simple breath was much too heavy for me,
it wrapped chains around the quiet colours,
my final act is this poetry's wave
which touches those sparkles inside your tears.
