My Visitor

myI had a visitor late last night.
His timing was better than just alright.
His wife didn't know just where he had gone,
But she had her suspicions when he arrived home just before dawn.
I don't know the what or the how or the why,
But I do know we didn't say goodbye.
He knows if I marry I won't see him again,
But he comes when he can, until then.
He wishes for me, love and joy,
And doesn't treat me like a worn out toy.
We talk, we laugh, we go to bed,
And I remember every word he has said.
He goes home able to cope once more,
And I don't feel like a slut or a whore.
We just help each other make it through,
But we'd both be in trouble if our lovers knew.
I guess in some ways we aren't being fair,
And yet, when we need them, they just aren't there.
