On a Ferris Wheel

It's like I'm on a ferris wheel,
Spinning 'round and 'round.
Just when I think the ride is through,
I'm lifted off the ground.
Others are on this ride with me.
Some laugh and others cry.
Although I want to reach out to them,
I watch them passing by.
It seems as though we never stop.
The vendor's forgotten we're there,
And soon the dizziness we feel
Has blotted out the fear.
We see the Earth so far away,
Filled with happiness and with games,
And we forget for a moment
That it can all go up in flames.
Flames of passion, flames of pride,
Walls to build, possessions to divide.
Sparks of love, sparks of hate,
All's in ruin. It's too late.
