Crowd Pleaser

Snow fell last night.
An early morning drive left me witness
to the rushing flakes,
rushing to find a home among the pines.

Squirrels adorning a frosty coat
scamper about in the backyard,
chasing away fluttering birds from their
hand-crafted food source art.

The dog buries her nose in the snow
with zest before sneezing her interest
away.

It almost seems unusual, the snow,
coming during what can be most
aptly described as an Indian Autumn.

Then again, I don't remember
anyone singing about a warm December.

Yes, the snow is welcomed like an old
friend who finally made it to the reunion.
