A Burnt Out Star

Have you ever found a hole
Stamped outside yourself?
I once found a hole so large
It took the essence of myself.

When I noticed the gaping wound,
I tried to fill it in,
Though it only worsened
My sad condition within.

The best way to fix it,
I must say I have found,
Is to force yourself to look
And listen to the sound.

The stumbling heartbeat tells you
All you need to know,
Oft, it only tells you
What you already knew was so.

Believe it or believe it not,
That is up to you,
But watch the hole, deep, dank, dark,
For your heart it will pursue.
