There Was Evening, and There Was Morning

In the cold,
black dots drip into my vision,
holding back all I want to see.
Like pieces missing
from a puzzle, I must find them
before I can continue.
On a rope,
I repel deeply into the depths
longing for one more shred of light.

The sneaky solutions
do not hide; they do not burrow,
but have a way of crawling up inside you,
like a spring bubbling,
up out of the Earth they come
taking that one blindness forever.
The spots have never
fully cleared, for then, most surely,
I would know and would be done.
