Juxtaposition
It’s finally bedtime
She flies through the air
And leaps on the bed
Full of life and flair
She talks and she talks
About her long day
Full of all the fun things
She did along the way
I laugh at her stories
She begs me to stay
Just a little longer
She has so much to say
I finally settle her
Our prayers we then say
Thank you God for our blessings
And for another great day
Then I step in the hall
My emotions must shift
In between the two rooms
Of my most precious gifts
His room is quiet
He’s so very tired
From simply living
All his energy required
Some nights he cries
And says it’s not fair
He feels trapped in his body
And filled with despair
My heart breaks in two
As I kiss his sweet head
And wipe away tears
Before they fall to his bed
We close our eyes
I hold his frail hand
As we ask God for strength
To help us understand
Dear God lift him up
Fill his lungs with air
Please heal his body
Oh Lord hear our prayer
As I settle in bed
Defeated and scared
I close my eyes
And say my own prayer
Lord fill me with peace
And quiet my mind
Help me find the balance
That I long to find
Thank you God for these blessings
You’ve given to me
Please give me wisdom
To be the mom I should be
To be happy with her
And be strong for him
To see light and bright colors
When the world seems so dim
Lord give me the knowledge
To mother them both
To comfort his sadness
And nurture her growth
My children are wonderful
Each in their own way
They both make me proud
Every single day!
