Scars

His scars tell the story
Of the pain that he’s endured
Scars on the surface
The heart within can’t be cured

I wish that I could take it
The scars, the pain, it all
But I cannot take it
My son has to fall

What cruel and horrible pain
For a mother to endure
To not be able to fix it
A kiss it will not cure

My scars are invisible
But they are equally there
Burning deep inside
A cross for me to bear

My soul, my heart, my conscience
My brain and mind too
Are slashed and pierced within me
Just as painful and true

My soul remains on fire
With this indescribable pain
But no one else can see it
My internal, endless rain

It’s worse than any curse
Or fire so deep within
Deep so deep I feel it
Scars that have no end

One day we will know
The glory of our God
We’ll stand in divine presence
And for eternity be awed

He’ll heal his earthly body
My soul will be set free
Both our scars healed
Forever in eternity
