Grind

Like line dancers
Doing the bump & grind
Bodies streak past each other
Intentionally brushing denim—
Cause for conversation, apologies,
Pick-up lines & cocktail absolution,
Prelude to the next chess move
Where knight takes queen
Walks out the door
Calculates possibilities as
Midnight air anesthetizes senses
Already deadened by booze;
No plans to sober up until
Additional drinks consummate
Late night magical madness with
Flickering street lamp dignity &
Early morning disbeliefs—
Stripped of surprises in
Dawn’s unclouded light.
