I watched you give up on me Dad

Candice Sapp 1982 (Morgantown West Virginia)

I watched you give up on me,
Like a sinking ship lost in the sea,
You turned your back and walked away,
Leaving my heart, forgetting my name.
I tried to hold on with all my might,
But you were already out of sight,
Didn't you love me Dad? Was it all a lie?
I screamed Dad, Don't Leave.
I hoped you would come back to play,
To spend time with me,
You never came back, I didn't know what to say,
You were gone, it felt like forever,
I sank in a dark place,
Consumed in despair,
Asking myself, why did you leave and not even care?
I tried to move on, find something to get into.
But the pain of your absence, it was all I know.
I watched you give up on me.
As I slowly faded out of your life.
You have a beautiful baby girl, why can't you see.
I will always have your eyes of blue,
Why didn't you love me, like I loved you.
You left me at the age of three,
You just threw away the key.
