Goodnight Sun
Darrell Pender 1967
On the western horizon,
the blazing sphere travels across the sky.
Painted in celestial hues,
from golden yellow to pumpkin orange,
as it travels out of sight.
I see you as you pass me by,
displaying your radiant tapestry of light.
Slowly, you dip below the horizon, and to your fading light,
I whisper, 'Goodnight.
