COLOURS OF MY MIND

COLOURS OF MY MIND
By Celia Pingue Donguines

Look at the fresh green pastures,
Across the hills and plains.
A ray of orange sun peers through,
Light showers of purple rain.

Brown cattle quietly grazes,
The first taste of spring.
And wild yellow mustard blooms,
Dance gracefully to the wind.

Our thoughts of memorable past came to mind,
That day the sky was blue.
White fluffy clouds blown from the east,
Carried pockets of morning dew.

I brought along the colors,
Across the countless miles,
Of fun-filled days of lavender,
And periwinkle smiles.

Today, I thought of all of you and paused down to pray,
Lord, these gray dull moments can’t last another day.
As long as youthful thoughts of you.
Of rosy pinks and reds,
Will color all your days just like mine,
And those that lie ahead.

Celia P Donguines

I was born in Guam. My parents are both from the Philippines and migrated to Guam when my Dad was hired to rebuild the island right after WW II. He was a self-made general "contractor". I started writing poetry in the third grade, inspired by my mother who was always reading poems. She never once wrote one. I'm a Registered Nurse by profession, and now retired after 50 years, employed at several medical centers, mostly in the ICU and outpatient Hemodialysis, since 2023. I am happily married for 45 years, two sons and one grandson who is now three years old. Still writing poetry off and on to this day since 1988, and turning 74 this year. Just blessed! more…

The poem "Colours of My Mind" gave me a visual interpretation of the poets expressed emotions about memories of experiences with classmates of long ago.

The use of seasonal color in natures flora and fauna to set the mood for fun-filled light-hearted atmosphere. The colors pleasantly affected her memories of childhood relationships. I understood her wish that her classmates would remember the excitement and joy of their time together and bring the same emotions to the reunion.
