AN ANGEL IN DISGUISE

SHE LIKES TO TAG ALONG YOUR SIDE,
YOUR STRESS AND WORRIES ON HER MIND,
AND KNOWING THAT YOU’RE ALL ALONE,
THROUGH TOUGHER TIMES, SHE’LL FALL BEHIND.

SHE ALWAYS KNOWS YOU’RE IN CONTROL,
THOUGH OFTEN TIMES YOU SOMETIMES FALL,
BUT WHEN YOU DO, SHE’LL MAKE IT HAPPEN,
SO, YOU’LL LEARN TO CRY AND LAUGH MORE OFTEN.

SHE WILL BE THERE TO CHEER EACH DAY,
WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH AND GO ASTRAY,
DON’T CRY OR FRET, NO CAUSE FOR HARM,
SHE’LL FLAP HER WINGS AND GRAB YOUR ARM.

SHE’LL TAKE YOU FOR A PLEASANT RIDE,
TO PLACES WHERE YOU’LL LOVE TO HIDE,
BEFORE THE SUNSHINE FADES AWAY,
SHE’LL CALL YOUR NAME WITHOUT DISMAY.

AND SOFTLY WHISPER IN YOUR EAR,
TO THANK YOU MOST WITH DEEP SINCERE,
TO HAVE AND HOLD YOU CLOSE TO HER HEART,
FROM THIS DAY ON YOU’LL NEVER PART.

CELIA P DONGUINES

I was born in Guam. My parents are both from the Philippines and migrated to Guam when my Dad was hired to rebuild the island right after WW II. He was a self-made general "contractor". I started writing poetry in the third grade, inspired by my mother who was always reading poems. She never once wrote one. I'm a Registered Nurse by profession, and now retired after 50 years, employed at several medical centers, mostly in the ICU and outpatient Hemodialysis, since 2023. I am happily married for 45 years, two sons and one grandson who is now three years old. Still writing poetry off and on to this day since 1988, and turning 74 this year. Just blessed! more…
