River Voices

I have heard the river voices,
the rocks called out as I’ve passed;

Only when you’re alone in nature
will you learn what the earth has to teach.

"But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
Job 12:7-8."

About this poem

When you spend a lot of time alone in the wilderness, your ears tune themselves to the silence and the sounds of nature. The effect of a river tricking the mind that other people must be heading your way on the trail, only to never materialize is one that must be gotten used to. I love how much we can learn from nature.

    In modern times, man has lost the sacred wonder of nature. We do not see it the same as the man of the past. For many a tree is just a thing that stands in the way. We have lost the myth, the mystery of it all.
    This poem is a good reminder of those days when man and nature were one. When man lived in daily contact with nature and participated in its wonders.
    Good read!
