River Voices

I have heard the river voices,
the rocks called out as I’ve passed;

Only when you’re alone in nature
will you learn what the earth has to teach.



"But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
Job 12:7-8."

About this poem

When you spend a lot of time alone in the wilderness, your ears tune themselves to the silence and the sounds of nature. The effect of a river tricking the mind that other people must be heading your way on the trail, only to never materialize is one that must be gotten used to. I love how much we can learn from nature.
