The Orphans

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The Orphans

I was home alone. Then I noticed there were people all around me. They came from the past. To open my eyes at last. They opened their mouths, but nothing came out. So they all pointed to the floor, where there was a hidden door. I went to the floor and opened the door. What I found were all these children who were left behind. They were crying and starving, with nothing to wear. I dropped to my knees and could not believe it. How can this be? I wanted to scream that it must be a dream. So I took them all and took care of their needs. I thanked all the people around me, indeed. They all disappeared. Then it was me again, sitting on my chair with nothing to wear.

About this poem

It's about all the lost souls out there. That need care.
