Chameleon

They stare as if they don’t believe.
Could this be a facade or the real thing?
I’ll tell them that it’s me,
Because who else could it be?

Gentle smiles and rolling laughter.
Blending in like a chameleon.
Giving out what I thought was my best,
As if I had a place amongst the rest.
Holding onto obsessions never learning any lessons.

I’ll only be but a moment I told them,
But I’ve been gone for awhile now.
My body now lies in a crevice of unfortunate events.
Every inch of my heart turned into ice,
And I feel entirely too numb.
I became something unforeseen.

They stare as if they still don’t believe.
Every word I’ve spoken.
Every movement of my feet.
Neither here nor there yet I’m everywhere;
A chameleon.

I’ll tell them that they were right.
I’ve never been myself.
