My Heart Part II

Somedays,
I let you occupy my mind.
Most nights,
My heart still beats in foreign rhythms.
This heart that has been
Tattered and torn asunder.
You kept ahold of it,
For far longer than I'd like to admit.
The taste of love,
Still lingers on my tongue.
It's un-washable;
So insufferable.
I took too many steps
Thinking you'd catch me every time.
This stupid heart of mine
Holds onto you like a lifeline.
Sentimental little pulses.
I didn't care where it brought me.
The hold I had on it,
Was unsteady;
Too out of my reach since the beginning.
You put my heart on the shelf
For all to see,
How one could love.
But let's stop pretending.
Some nights,
I'd lay awake
Thinking you'd never break it.
Most days,
I'd lie to myself
And say that it'll be alright,
You're keeping it safe.
But let's not forget,
What really happened.
You tore it out of its seams
And never gave it back to me.
You're the reason why
I can no longer breathe....
