The Mindset Of Racism

The Mindset Of Racism
By Robert T. Davenport

In the annals of time, the words may change,
From "colored" to "people of color" they rearrange,
But the mindset of racism, it lingers still,
A poison that seeps, a wound that won't heal.

For what is in a name, but a label to define,
The hue of our skin, the shade of our kind?
Yet the prejudice remains, the bias persists,
In the depths of ignorance, it firmly insists.

From the days of old, when "colored" was the norm,
To the present, where "people of color" is born,
The chains of discrimination, they still bind,
The echoes of injustice, they still find.

For it matters not the words we choose,
If the hearts remain closed, if the minds refuse,
To see the beauty in our diversity,
To embrace the richness of humanity.

We are more than the color that adorns our skin,
More than the labels that society pins,
We are souls, interconnected, intertwined,
In this vast tapestry of humankind.

So let us rise above the words that divide,
Let us break the chains, let us set them aside,
For in unity, we find our true strength,
In love and acceptance, we go to great lengths.

No longer shall we be defined by a name,
No longer shall we play this futile game,
For the essence of our being, it transcends,
The limitations that prejudice intends.

Let us strive for a world where all are seen,
Where the content of character reigns supreme,
Where the mindset of racism is but a memory,
And the beauty of diversity is our legacy.
