Reparations, Cut The Check

Robert T. Davenport 1979 (Newark, New Jersey)

Reparations, Cut The Check
By Robert T. Davenport

Reparations, a call that echoes loud and clear,
A plea for justice, a demand we hold dear.
Centuries of oppression, of stolen wealth and land,
It's time to reckon, to make amends, understand.

Cut the check, they say, for the debts unpaid,
For the lives shattered, for the promises betrayed.
Generations of pain, of systemic abuse,
Reparations, a chance to heal, to diffuse.

For the wounds run deep, the scars still remain,
Injustices endured, a legacy of pain.
From slavery's chains to Jim Crow's grip,
The echoes of injustice, we can't let slip.

Reparations, not just a monetary sum,
But a recognition of the harm that's been done.
A chance to level the playing field, to restore,
To address the inequalities that still endure.

It's not about blame, it's about making things right,
Acknowledging the past, embracing the fight.
To dismantle the systems that perpetuate divide,
And create a future where justice can reside.

Cut the check, not just for the present, but the past,
To rectify the wrongs that have forever cast.
A commitment to equality, to repair,
To build a society that's truly fair.

Reparations, a powerful message we send,
To rectify the injustices that cannot mend.
It's time to listen, to act, to make a change,
To honor the struggle, to break free from this cage.

So, cut the check, and let justice prevail,
Reparations, a step towards a fairer tale.
For in acknowledging the past, we pave the way,
To a future where equality will forever stay.
