A Poet With A Pistol

Robert T. Davenport 1979 (Newark, New Jersey)

A Poet With A Pistol
By Robert T. Davenport

In the realm of words, where poets dwell,
There lived a soul, with stories to tell.
But this poet, unlike the rest,
Carried a pistol, close to his chest.

With ink as his weapon, he crafted his verse,
But the pistol, a symbol, a poetic curse.
For his words were sharp, like bullets they flew,
Piercing hearts, revealing truths anew.

He wrote of love, with passion and fire,
But also of pain, of heartache and desire.
His verses, like bullets, struck deep in the soul,
Unveiling emotions, making hearts whole.

With each line he penned, he aimed to ignite,
A revolution of thoughts, a poetic fight.
His pistol, a symbol of his inner strife,
A reminder that words can take a life.

But this poet, with a pistol, sought not to harm,
Rather, to awaken, to provoke and disarm.
He aimed to challenge, to question the norm,
To ignite a fire, a poetic storm.

For his pistol was not meant for violence or war,
But to break down barriers, to open new doors.
To challenge the powerful, to give voice to the weak,
To inspire change, to make the world speak.

So this poet, with a pistol, walked a fine line,
Harnessing the power of words, both gentle and unkind.
He knew the weight of his responsibility,
To use his gift wisely, with humility.

For in his hands, the pistol became a tool,
To shape the world, to make hearts rule.
With each poem he wrote, he aimed to inspire,
To ignite a spark, to set souls on fire.

So let us remember, as we wield our pens,
The power we hold, to shape the world's lens.
For like the poet with a pistol, we too can ignite,
A revolution of words, a poetic fight.
