Wounded Heart...

This is the story of my daughter, Christine, and myself,
She has a nickname that she calls herself - it's a kind of elf.
Our relationship has been tough even from the start,
Many different situations lead up to this and it breaks my heart.
Thru the years we never got much time together in her life,
I'm partially to blame for that - along with a certain ex-wife.
This ex-wife and her daughter put my daughter thru living hell,
And to my lack of strength I miss handled the situation as well.
My daughter has fair reasons to be upset with me about the past,
I just wish we could let it go and start fresh to make it last.
I've made so many mistakes trying so hard to make up lost time,
But it's either caused me to over love her or feel like a crime.
We have our ups and downs like most relationships usually do,
I just don't know how to make up for the past - I have no clue.
She has always felt second best - never good enough you see,
I never planned for it to be this way but the blame is on me.
I should have tried harder to make her feel first in my life,
But is was never made any easier for me by my first ex-wife.
She would take off with her never telling me where they were,
It constantly tore me apart causing deep scars on my heart for sure.
I can't blame her for feeling upset - I just wish she could see,
My heart has been deeply damaged as well - the pain still lives in me.
She's grown up to be so beautiful and smart on top of that,
If you ask her about herself - she'll tell you she's got it all and knows where it's at.
I hope we can work it out sometime soon before I get too old,
We just need to forgive and forget about all that happened in the cold.
I guess only time can heal all wounds that's all I know for sure,
Until that day comes I'll never stop looking for her.

How the hell did I miss this one? It's a thing of beauty. Tell Christine I said hi.
