The Monster was Me

The Monster was Me

 Self-deprecating thoughts torment my Mind.
In the heat of the moment, my Emotions make me blind.
I'm ashamed to say, I hurt my loved ones the Most.
My skin burning, I'm so Angry that I Burst,
Into flames, igniting all passersby.
Like a virus, the flames catch.
The fire burns down into the escape hatch.
I yell, I scream, I say such mean things.
These words fly from my Lips as though they had wings.
In my chest, I feel a Knot growing with each Breath.
So heavy feels my Heart, a crushing pain, I hope for Death.
But I know that I must suffer. This hurt is Mine. Pain caused by my Anger. I must suffer for all time.
I wallow in despair as I'm consumed by an Emptiness.
Unaffected by others, but continuing on my path of Recklessness.
I had planted this seed long ago. A seedling of Frustration.
Planted when others had taken Advantage, planted for my Protection.
For many years I fostered my Seedling, until it grew into a Beautiful Tree.
A Tree deeply rooted in a Wrath that I would unleash upon those unexpected.
When my Rage became Excited, I Ruthlessly destroyed everything within my Grasp.
A flame sparked within me and there stood a Dragon full of Vengeance.
I had to protect my family from my Fury.
My Unforgiving Rage I had to Bury.
This spiteful Monster had crept it's way into our Safe Haven because I had set It Free.
This Creature that I breathed life into had caused much sorrow for those I Claimed to love.
It pained me to take a look in the Mirror and see, that the Monster they Feared was Me.
Anger has plagued my Soul for much of this Life.
It began with a seedling that I Nurtured with much care and Strife.
From that seed it grew to be the strongest, most Malevolent kind of Beast.
Many times this Magnificent Creature had protected me.
So, in kind, I hid it away until the day that our Pride became compromised.
No hope for those around, as they would soon be brought to their untimely Demise.
Its Untethered Wrath now unleashed, the Monster brought our Enemies to their Knees.
No matter if they would cry and Plead.
I had created a Monster that was unstoppable. This Dark Creature continued its Path of Destruction until all was in ruins.
My Eyes were Opened and I saw clearly, for the 1st time, and it Pained me to Know of the anguish that my family had suffered at my hand.
I had to Destroy the Monster I had created, as the Devastation it's Malevolence had caused was too Great.
I saw fear in my family's eyes.
It made me want to cry.
It pained me to look in the Mirror and see
That the Monster they feared was Me.
