Journey through the River of Ordinary Time

"Some days it seems like the weight of the world
Drags my soul to new lows, crushing my heart in its grip
Those days I walk under clouds, raindrops my tears
Joy feels like a distant dream beyond my reach

Other days, my spirit soars light as a bird
Skimming the blue sky, winds of delight lift me high
Laughter bubbles up from hidden springs within
Grace fills each breath, gratitude in every heartbeat  

Most days, life flows steady as a river between
Neither weighed down by sorrow, nor dancing in delight
Just calm currents bearing me on, come what may
The ebb and flow of ordinary time passing  

But life’s rhythm cannot be tamed or controlled
Stormy skies and bright dawns both will have their day
To embrace each moment as a precious gift
Is to find meaning on the highs and lows of each day

I cannot hoard the joys, nor block out the pain
Must welcome times of light and shadow the same
Bearing the darkness with hope, holding the light with care
Finding wisdom in all seasons life brings to share

The key is keeping my eyes on each step ahead
Not grieving goodbyes, nor grasping fleeting delight
But opening my hands, my heart to receive each instant
The bad with the good, all deserving my full presence
  
Life offers no guarantees, no permanent bliss
Pain and problems will come, that’s for sure
But so will joy, so will beauty, if I open my eyes to see
Grace abounds in both sorrow and laughter equally

Some days my heart feels pierced, my tears flow free
Other days, I’m beaming like the sun, vitality overflowing
Most days I’m just living, steady, in the flow
Through it all, I’m learning to fully embrace the mystery
  
Of this precious life, ups and downs and all
The mosaic of moments that make up my days
Darkness and light woven into one tapestry
Each experience a gift deserving my loving gaze"
