Stay Away From Sharp Edges

It's going to be like this forever,
medicate me until I can’t feel,
that's what you wanted from me, right?
You want to make me normal,
but i'm not the person i was when I was born,
something went wrong in the mixing bowl;
too many inconsistencies in the recipe made me broken.
I’m not broken because of sadness,
I broke when you dropped me.
I shattered into too many pieces to put back together,
so many have tried to glue the shards into one,
but they’re fragile now, being torn from me again.
I’m not going to make it with the pieces left,
they keep falling off and breaking into more fragments,
I fell apart a long time ago,
So why try now when all the pieces are scattered in front of me,
it's just so much effort,
I can’t muster the strength to pick them up again,
the leftovers shimmer in the light when the sun rises,
It's beautiful when it shines, why not pick them up?
The edges cut me over and over,
They’re too sharp to gather.
Luckily I don’t mind the pain,
it’s almost comforting to have something to expect;
something to go back to every time.
If i keep gathering them eventually I’ll be put together again,
even if I fall apart after,
I don’t mind the pain.

About this poem

its cliche to say "i'm broken" but I wrote this in the depths of my own emotions, and if that's what came out, then that's what it is.
