In Beholding You

Suzy Ceci 1970 (Guadeloupe)

You remind me of the sun, waltzing with the earth,
Making her light up with beautiful hues.

You remind me of the sea, flirting and kissing the shores,
Drawing out deep sighs from each tiny pebble.

Yes, you remind me of the sky, that constant companion to my gaze.

You remind me of a stream, happily trickling down a mountain backside,
Delighting it, it seems, with goose bumps along its spine.

You remind me of a twinkle in the eye that has spotted love on its path ahead.

You do remind me of all these things and so much more.

You remind me of the rustling of dry pods full of seeds,
Standing tall, on a vast prairie, in the thick of summer.
I can hear them giggling at the feet, walking through the tall blades of grass.

You remind me of the snow, light in falling, but heavy in setting,
Neutral to the eyes, yet so full of the colors of life.

You remind of the breath, gently inhaled to fill the lungs and thump the heart.
These things you remind me of, you who are, who you are.
Hair like cotton candy, skin fragrant with a million different scents of cinnamon and spices.

You remind me of rolling hills at sunset,
Rich rust, royal purple, and glorious gold.

You remind me of a precious gift given in secret with a smile.
Just because,
Just because.
