Innocence Gone

The innocence of a child,
The most precious of all Gods gifts.
Something each of us once possessed,
But with time has gone adrift.

The smartest little children,
Surely the best, the world will know.
But our ever-absorbing eyes and ears,
Seemingly betray us, as we grow.

Things that once seemed paradise,
Now they seem so small.
What once had much importance,
Now has no meaning at all.

Replace the plastic jewelry,
With gold and diamond rings.
The intentions are the same,
Now it takes more expensive things.

An unfortunate human trait,
To leave innocence in the past.
But there will always be children,
And memories of innocence, will always last.

About this poem

The innocence of a child is probably the most precious gift that a human being can ever posses but yet as humans we seem to be so anxious to grow up and rid ourselves of that innocence.

The side that deeply thinks about things. The side with an imagination and a desire to use my hands for more than just brute physical labor. more…
