The Heaviest Price

we wonder why loss is the greatest pain
why it drowns us in endless rain
the heart hurts, the crying we’re tired of
but it’s because we’ve loved with the truest love
it is the greatest thing we’ve ever come across
but it’s heavy price is the great tragedy of loss
you live to see them laugh and smile
whether it’s a friend, partner, family, or child
yes, it seems like you can’t go on
but you were able to sing the sweetest song
that of hope, compassion, strength, and joy
that nothing, not even loss, can destroy
when you think they left too soon
don’t forget they were lucky to have you
you would’ve made the sun set in the east
just so you could give them their longing peace
you would’ve taken their pain as your cross
so they never felt unwanted and lost
because there’s nothing more painful than loss
but there’s nothing more soothing than love
knowing that they were more than enough
so cry your tears, let your heart break
and don’t ever make anyone wait
to hear that you love them every day

About this poem

This poem is about the heart-wrenching pain of loss associated with love. People say the biggest feeling or emotion is love; I say it is loss, because you cannot lose something you do not love. Its duality is the greatest tragedy of life.

I have always indulged in the endless wonderment writing can effortlessly bring. I long to bring color to my composed artwork of words. The truth of it is, I do not know what my thoughts will create. All I know is that my poetry comes from the deepest chasms of my passion and spirit. more…

Love and loss. Yin and Yang. The deeper the love the more painfully we experience the loss. But the poem encourages us to remember—there’s life in memory. We must remember. | Favorite lines: “you were able to sing the sweetest song / that of hope, compassion, strength, and joy that nothing, not even loss, can destroy”

    Beautiful work …
