Love Must Not Be Silent
Love Must Not Be Silent
When hate is loud love must not be silent
The rage and rant of the racist
Screaming at the top of his lungs
Or subtly whispering putrid policies
Deafens the decency of all of us
Striving just to get along.
The diversity of people is destroyed
When hate advances separation
Cutting the fabric of the human family
Into shreds resembling a torn tapestry
We are so inextricably connected
No one walks and lives alone.
Watching someone suffer doing nothing
Isn’t a spectator’s sport
The sunshine soul serves no purpose
Bench warming helps no one
When the storm surges through life
That is our call for compassion.
The hurricane of hate ravages humanity
It’s insidious influence decimates
Every attempt for unity and peace
Love must raise its chorus
Not in kumbaya celebrations
But our choices to build bridges.
