Yearning Hearts: Love's Vulnerability

Tammie Swinehart 1974 (Mooresville, IN)

This poem is about about feelings of vulnerability, longing, and the struggle to maintain a sense of control in a romantic relationship.

About this poem

In love's tender embrace, vulnerability blooms, A tapestry of emotions, like ink on parchment looms, Longing's silent echo, a melody so bittersweet, Two souls entwined, yet separate hearts beat. A dance of whispers, a delicate thread, Through corridors of uncertainty, we tread, Yearning for closeness, a touch that ignites, Yet guarding our hearts from unforeseen nights. A fragile balance, a struggle to hold, Control slipping like grains of sand, untold, For love defies reason, a wild, untamed fire, Leaving us breathless, caught in desire. In your eyes, reflections of stars in the night, I see my dreams taking flight, oh so bright, But the fear of loss, of shattered dreams, Leaves us building defenses, sewing up seams. We reach for dominion, a semblance of reign, Over emotions that surge like a tempest's disdain, Yet vulnerability's beauty lies in its grace, In the cracks and the flaws, in love's sacred space. So let us embrace the fragility we share, Longing and vulnerability, a love's tender air, For control is an illusion, a mirage in the heart, In the struggle, we find strength to restart. In the tapestry woven by two souls entwined, Vulnerability and longing, the hues that bind, Through the struggle, we learn, we heal, we grow, And love's true essence, with time, we come to know.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
