Just a start at welcoming.

Chinese Family Just Arrived. Met them in Restaurant. Friend Mary was already offering help.

Imagine
Here from Hong Kong
Only three days
Young thirties couple
And sweet young daughter.
I’m saying around six.

They were game for
Whatever suggestions
English usage was a start.
She was a nurse practitioner
Back home. He was venturing
In the same direction.

Imagine if you can
All the fearful changes.
I zoned in on their
Acquiring health cards. Accident?
Walk in Clinic?
Hospital?
This has to be first step.
Followed by Banking Sign-Ins.
Securing an apartment.
(Presumably hotel or Hostel for the moment.)
Kitchener Recreation department, social
Programs Department.
.

We shook hands smilingly.
Wished them Godspeed.
Little Girl looked
Back over her shoulder.
Sweet face will be remembered.
She will probably be
The quickest ADAPT.

About this poem

This is my last post at poetry.com. Found commenting here to be token and sparse. Little in the way of value added in them. And the emojees! How I despised them! Entered Contest in five different months. That process proved disappointing. But I must say that I found one woman who emphasized her role as Encouragement in lots of positive comments. She knew the meaning of real Community. As did few others. I have moved over to all poetry.com. It is much more satisfying. It has a format for requiring meaningful commenting on others’ work, before one gets an opportunity to post another one of his/her pieces. And oh by the way, best wishes and bon voyage to AIDA.
