Who Am I Not To Forgive?

JOHN ALLEN SKINNER 1971 (Fort Worth)

July 23

WHO AM I NOT TO FORGIVE?
A son looks to his father
For guidance, approval, and strength.
The absentee of a father can leave a child
Confused, abandoned, and with a lack of self-confidence.
I know because I've been there
I was full of resentment, anger, and hate
Feeling like my father didn't love me, not knowing that he's only human and made mistakes.
I got older and became a father myself, and missed visit's with my child that I had planned
It was only then, standing in my father's shoes that I began to understand.
Now all of a sudden GONE is the anxiety, the emotions, the feeling of dread
God spoke, "FORGIVENESS!"
Then all of the old weight I never knew was there lifted off my head
My father and I sat and talked and mended our old wounds
Afterwards, a relationship we always wanted began to bloom
They say it's never too late, but I believe sometimes it is
If you don't drop the pride, listen to your heart and learn to forgive
Since then my father and I have gone fishing, camping, listening to Jimmy Smith, and just having fun
Doing all the things I wanted to do and missed when I was young thank God for the lesson, I realize forgiveness is a key
Who am I not to forgive my father as my father in heaven has forgiven me?
