Welder With Pearls

I fell for a girl
a welder with pearls
worked on subs down in Norfolk
when someone suggested she get vaccinated
she suggested that they hesitate
sweetly as candy but tough and so handy
can fix an old roof in a heartbeat
full of sweet innocence laughing but serious
drove a big rig for some years
can drive my van while I sleep in the back
with an audio book and the fan
short and lovely with a cute mouth and funny
she makes me feel like a rich man
don't get me talking about true devotion
you don't get ahead of your plan
but when you're committed this woman will tease you
make wonderful meals and quietly need you
making you feel like there's something to do
something she needs or maybe just wants
could be a smile a hug and some dancing
or maybe just showing she's loved
but be on the case as there's nothing more late
than affection and help when it's needed
and not much is better than being together
without those hard words need be said
facing together a world lost to reason
with a gift that came down from heaven.
