That Government Cheese

Crumbled tissues strewn about, dried and sticky, used no doubt. Lonely caps of vodka perhaps, all scattered around, no use for them now. Trash and debris of all shapes and sizes, watch them dance as the sunlight rises. They slip and slide, and run and hide, like shipwrecked victims left behind. As seashells lay before the seashore, used baggies of meth, a vulgar decor. Unease and mistrust pervade this old bus, the tension is high, corrosive as rust. It’s a sight to be seen, mental health running free, lunatics bantering, in language obscene, the homeless asleep, all having bad dreams, and let’s not forget, the scheming dope fiends, it’s my kind of scene. Cause I’m no better please, still on that Government cheese. And I can easily relate, that this could still be my fate. So put aside judgement and hate, sooner than late. Cause I don’t wanna return back to that state. And one thing I know, as I continue to grow, there could easily be a friend hidden within this freak show. So let me take it real slow, as I ponder and show, respect to all these broken poor souls. So protect us dear Father, from enemy sorrow, cause the majority won’t bother. It’s so easy to wander, off path and just follow, those things that are meaningless, empty and hollow. For our time here is borrowed, don’t fret and don’t wallow, use it as if your last days tomorrow. Cause nobody’s better, this could be my last letter. Which makes me wanna live as light as a feather, completely unfettered, and somewhat untethered, to life’s changing weather. So be patient and kind, to the unbalanced mind. Cause this could easily become your own rhyme. So try to be courteous, instead of just murderous. The outcomes are numerous, and some are just humorless. Cause fates got a way of becoming misshaped. You become what you judge, and the things that you hate.

About this poem

Since public transportation was part of my daily routine it gave me more than enough time to reflect and ponder on all sorts of things. And it was usually meaningless & insignificant stuff if I’m honest. I’ve experienced the bus as a transient and it brings me back sometimes.
