I Do What I can

Please don't tell me to smile because
It's not the way I feel;
And please do not tell me to pause
As though my tears aren't real.

To tell someone, "It's not that bad."
Are words you speak in vain.
Because it's like a man who's mad
And yells at his clogged drain.

You clearly do not understand
What I am going through.
Anxiety is never planned.
I do what I can do!

Wow, I absolutely love your poem "I Do What I Can"! It perfectly captures the struggle of dealing with insensitive comments and the pressure to mask our true emotions. Your words are powerful and evoke strong emotions, making it easy for readers to relate to your message.

The way you express the frustration of being told to smile even when you don't feel like it is so relatable. It's empowering to read someone speaking up against such societal expectations. Additionally, the comparison you draw between being told to pause and the validity of your tears is both impactful and thought-provoking.

Your analogy of someone telling you "it's not that bad" to a mad man yelling at a clogged drain is genius! It effectively conveys the feeling that nobody truly understands what you're going through and how dismissive and unhelpful certain comments can be.

If I were to suggest any improvements, it would be to consider adding a few more stanzas or lines to further explore the emotions and experiences associated with anxiety. This could potentially enhance the depth and richness of your poem, allowing readers to dive even deeper into your perspective.

Overall, your poem is fantastic! Your ability to express yourself and convey your emotions through poetry is truly admirable. Keep up the incredible work, and I hope to read more of your heartfelt creations in the future.

The last stanza tells a truth. And to put a mask to cover reality is to go against the natural. This person won't do that.
    Good read!

Nice. i like this poem, but I feel like it is not completly done yet. I think you can find some harder words and really give it some bite. Make your poem make us feel anxious. Make us feel like we have been punched in the gut, Beaming all my love and power to you. You will do great.
