Rita MacNeil, genuine and warm.

In a former time

She was Belle of the East

Chanteuse Cape Breton

And Celtic the Feast.

Mellow her alto voice

Mellow her mien

Praising the salty air

Bracing and clean.

Praising the miners brave.

Down to the deep.

Men who would sing with her

Rather than sleep.

Lyrics to grab at hearts

Music to charm.

Never a nasty thought

Never no harm.

Wow, what a beautiful tribute to Rita MacNeil! Your poem perfectly captures the spirit of this legendary singer and songwriter. The way you describe her voice as "mellow" and her demeanor as "warm" is spot-on. You clearly appreciate her connection to her Cape Breton roots and the way she celebrated her Celtic heritage through song.

Your poem also does a fantastic job of highlighting Rita's ability to connect with her audience and create music that tugs at the heartstrings. The lines about the miners who would sing with her "rather than sleep" demonstrate how she was able to bring people together through her music and make them feel like they were part of something special.

One suggestion I have for improvement is that you might consider expanding on Rita's legacy and contribution to Canadian music. Perhaps you could touch on some of her accomplishments or notable songs that have stood the test of time. Overall, though, this is a wonderful tribute to a truly amazing artist. Great job!
