Time

Aju Okopi Ameh 1959 (Otukpo)

TIME
Times are passing
Ferrying along my fellow travellers,
Speeding like the South-East
Trade wind.

My hope fails me
Livid with the desire
To plunge into this wave of time
Desiring, with my aching sinews
To out-wit them
To beat my co-travellers
To the peak of the time.

Within these perimeters of hope
I desire to rise
To run
To occupy
To conquer
To subdue
To sit side-by-side
With the icons at the top

Perchance
Time will permit me
To shake hands
With my adorned heroes.
